Quickstart
After installing Sonomos, here’s how to verify it’s working.
-
Open any webpage — navigate to a site you’d normally paste text into, such as claude.ai or chatgpt.com.
-
Check the risk widget — look for the Sonomos shield in the bottom-right corner of the page. It shows a traffic-light color:
- 🟢 Green — no PII detected on the page
- 🟡 Amber — low-sensitivity data detected (e.g., general names)
- 🔴 Red — high-sensitivity data detected (e.g., SSNs, medical record numbers)
-
Try a detection — paste or type text containing sample PII (e.g.,
John Doe, SSN 123-45-6789, john@example.com) into the page. Watch the widget update in real time. -
Enable Cloak — click the Sonomos widget and toggle Cloak on. Now when you submit text to a supported AI platform, Sonomos automatically masks detected PII before it’s sent.
-
Review results — open the Sonomos popup by clicking the toolbar icon. You’ll see a summary of detected entities, their categories, and severity levels.
Supported AI platforms (Cloak)
Cloak currently provides automatic masking on select AI platforms, with Send Guard fallback protection on all other sites.
| Platform | Protection level | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Claude.ai | Automatic masking | ✅ Supported |
| Gemini | Automatic masking | ✅ Supported |
| Grok | Automatic masking | ✅ Supported |
| ChatGPT | Send Guard | 🟡 Fallback |
| Other | Send Guard | 🟡 Fallback |
For platforms without automatic masking, Sonomos displays a Send Guard warning banner or blocking modal before submission.
