Compare Sonomos Products — Browser Extension vs Canary vs Desktop
Sonomos protects PII across the channels people actually use to talk to AI. Different channels need different tools — this page shows what each Sonomos product is for, so you can quickly pick the right one (or stack them).
At a glance
| Product | What it protects | Status | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Browser extension | Web AI chat (Claude.ai, Gemini, Grok, ChatGPT, etc.) inside Chromium browsers | Prototype, available today | Free / Pro / Teams |
| Canary | Claude Code (AI coding assistant in your terminal) | Available today, open source | Free (MIT) |
| Sonomos Desktop | Everything else: native AI apps, IDE assistants, local LLMs, clipboard, screenshots — OS-wide | Coming soon, beta list open | TBA |
What each product does
Browser extension
Catches PII in real time on web pages and automatically masks outgoing prompts on supported AI platforms. On every other site, Send Guard warns or blocks before submission.
- Cloak: automatic masking on Claude.ai, Gemini, Grok
- Send Guard: banner/modal warnings on ChatGPT and other sites
- Risk widget: traffic-light indicator (green / amber / red) on every page
- 62+ detectors (pattern + on-device AI)
- Compliance reports (Professional / Teams)

Canary for Claude Code
A small open-source plugin that watches every Claude Code session, counts what PII you’ve shared, and keeps a redacted, persistent record at ~/.sonomos/. It’s visibility, not masking — Canary doesn’t block or rewrite your prompts.
- 16 regex detectors with checksum validators (Luhn, MOD-97, EIP-55, Base58Check, MOD-11, …)
- 70+ semantic categories via Claude’s self-scan
- Local-only — no network calls, no telemetry, no account
- MIT-licensed source at github.com/sonomos-ai/Canary

Sonomos Desktop (coming soon)
The production-grade, system-wide successor to the extension. Protects PII anywhere on your machine, not just inside the browser — including the apps that an extension fundamentally can’t see.
- Native AI clients (Claude Desktop, ChatGPT Desktop, Copilot, Perplexity)
- IDE assistants (Cursor, Windsurf, Copilot Chat, JetBrains AI, Continue)
- Local LLMs (Ollama, LM Studio, llama.cpp)
- Clipboard, screenshots, file-drop scanning
- Voice / transcript scanning, larger on-device models, GPU acceleration
- Enterprise: SSO + SCIM, MDM deployment, policy-as-code, tamper-evident audit log

Which should I install?
- Web AI chat is most of my exposure → Browser extension.
- I live in Claude Code → Canary. Add the extension if you also use Claude.ai or Gemini in the browser.
- I use native AI apps, IDE assistants, or local LLMs → install whichever of the above applies now, and join the Sonomos Desktop beta list.
